DRAMATIC drop in traffic after redesign webshop

Hello all,

My company redesigned a webshop for a client.

The URL used to be https://www.domainname.nl and we now changed it to https://domainname.nl

It used to be WP E-commerce, now we made it WooCommerce.

We set 301 redirects to redirect the old links to the new site.

We used the old Analytics tracking code in the new site

We see a VERY DRAMATIC drop in traffic in (search)traffic after launching the new webshop, but sales are still up...

We didn't change anything in the Analytics settings, but we don't know if our client did

What is happening? How do we get the actual traffic in Analytics again?
We've tried a lot already.

Thanks for your help

Hi @Camiel K

Start by using the GA Debug and Tag Assistant extensions for Chrome. Your first step is to verify that Analytics is correctly setup and is collecting all data from the website, and you have to do that by basically auditing the entire setup. There are multiple online guides for Analytics audits (see this one for instance http://analytical42.com/2015/the-google-analytics-auditing-checklist/).

You mention that you're seeing a dramatic drop in search traffic. Are other traffic sources unaffected? In that case, I'd double check all of your redirects.

Hi @Phillip S

Thank you for your reply.

Both GA Debug and Tag Assistent were fine. I just changed the https://domainname.nl to https://www.domainname.nl again and I uploaded all 301 redirects again and traffic is rising again... So that seems to work, although it doesn't look very pretty, but okay.

Perhaps a stupid question, but did you also make sure that www-requests 301-redirected to the non-www domain? :-)
