Hey dear community,

I need to track users clicking on a button which drives traffic outside the website.

What method would you use?

Tracking button click or tracking outgoing traffic on this link?

What's the pros/cons?

Thank you for your help

Cheers

Either method would give you data but I'd personally track it as an event, so you know exactly that that specific button was clicked. If you have other outbound events taking place on the site it might make the analysis a little messier.

Remember that unless you modify the event tracking, this will reduce the bounce rate on the pages where the button is present.

*I mean track a click on the button as a button click event, rather than an outbound click.

Yep got it, it makes sense to use the button click event tracking for the reason you mentioned.

Thank you John.
