Banner Click Tracking (Event) Problem

Hello all

I’ve been struggling to get event tracking reports from the manually added banners from the page. Our codes are very well working with our other websites; I tried mostly everything but the click rates are not shown in the google events section.

I also contacted Google team; they said everything works fine with the codes etc; but the website does not send reports to google! by the way

Below is the code we are tracking all the clicks from the banner. This works...

<a href="http://www.groz-beckert.com//" target="_blank" onClick="_gaq.push(['_trackEvent', 'GROZ-BECKERT', 'Click']);">

<img src="http://www.textilegence.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/Groz-Beckert-Textilegence.gif"/></a>

But this code on the other web site does not send the reports. This does not work...

<a href="http://digital.fespa.com/en/" target="_blank" onClick="_gaq.push(['_trackEvent', 'Custom Ad 1', 'Click']);">

<img src="http://www.printing3d.news/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Textilegence_FESPA_Amsterdam.gif"/></a>

I tried to update the event tracking code with universal version but can not manage it,

Can anyone help me with it? Also can anyone change the classic version to universal one!

Thank you

Hi Fatih,

ok the issue on the site is not the version of the code but the code itself.

Currently you have:
<a href="http://digital.fespa.com/en/" target="_blank" onclick="ga('send', 'event’, ’banner’, ’Click’, ’FESPA’);”>

The issue is with this part:

"http://digital.fespa.com/en/" and

onclick="ga('send', 'event’, ’banner’, ’Click’, ’FESPA’);”

Please note that you are using both " and  as you may notice that these are different characters so use only " or '.

The correct version of the code:

<a href="http://digital.fespa.com/en/" target="_blank" onclick="ga('send', 'event', 'banner', 'Click', 'FESPA');">

Kind regards,
Zorin

Hi Faith,

on which page are you actually tracking the event? If on http://digital.fespa.com/en/ then the code syntax needs to change from classic (_gaq) to universal (ga) otherwise the events will not be tracked.

Hi Zorin

The banners will be on is www.printing3d.news . I want to track the click rates of the gif

<img src="http://www.printing3d.news/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Textilegence_FESPA_Amsterdam.gif"/></a>

visitors should go to http://digital.fespa.com/en/" after clicking.

Can you change the classic code to universal...I'm trying to make this but still no reports

Hi Mansoor

I don't know what do you use in the backgroudn but I'm using wordpress. It's easier to track banners with a simple code used in a text widged. You can find the code I'm using to follow the click rate on a banner on the first topic of mine.

Faith,

The problem is Banners will be shown on publisher website where I dont have any control. So wanted to know how can I add code in jpeg when technically I dont think it is possible to add tracking code to jpg image. Let me know if I am wrong?

Hi Mansoor It may be possible to add tracking code inside the jpeg but I have no knowledge about it. Sorry but I'm not so experienced in coding. But I'm sure there're people in this forum who can help you with this.
