Recovering analytics account

Called the adwords support number, selected the other products option and all they told me was to go to google.com/support

Theres nothing on the analytics help page to recover access to the account.

Forums posts I've seen said that a Google Specialist will email the admin associated with the account, that's great except I can't even get to that step...

Why is it so difficult for something so simple? Seems like something easily automated, form you fill out with UA number, emails sent out after that. I feel like I'm being fought every step of the way or being forced to make a adwords account to even talk to somebody.

Hi :-)
Sorry to hear you are having issues with this.

I've found email contact the most productive when trying to get help with analytics.

Make sure you are logged into your Adwords account, if you dont have one, create one to access the adwords support options. It does not need any running/active campaigns setup etc, (you will need your adwords customer id) and then go here when you are logged into it:
https://support.google.com/adwords/answer/6273970?from=8206&rd=1#

Click the Send us an email link, and the top right and then when it asks what you want help with, select the option that says Google Analytics and you should hear back within 24hrs.

There is also a comprehensive post by Niall in the following thread about account recovery
(its the one marked as best answer)

Google only provides GA phone support for customers who also have AdWords accounts.

So, if you have an AdWords account, use that account ID to get through to a human. If you don't have an AdWords account, you'll need to use the online forms, like Bronwyn said.
