If not in Management API, where?

Hello Google Analysts!

I manage 100+ Google Analytics properties and I need to make bulk changes to the following resources, which seem unsupported in the Management API.

  • Referral Exclusion List
  • Advertising Reporting Features
  • Demographics and Interest Reports
  • Content Grouping Settings
  • Annotations
  • Custom Alerts

Hence my questions:

  1. Am I stuck doing it by hand for all my properties?
  2. Is there a chance Google will ever implement these resources in its API?

Thank you for your attention!

Cheers,

Guido

Hey Guido,

Some of this can be 'shared' from one view or property to others. You can share certain assets from a view like Custom Segments, Goals, Custom Channel Groupings, Custom Attribution Models, and Custom Reports.

Here's a good article from Google that goes into further detail about this: https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/1326774?hl=en

Let me know if this helps!

Thank you Joshua for your reply! I find the asset sharing feature very useful indeed, and it definitely speeds up copying around the settings you mentioned. However, as far as I know, none of the resources I have listed in my question can be exported in such way.

Hey Guido,

I could be mistaken but it looks like you do have control over filters in Management API, check out the following:

https://developers.google.com/analytics/devguides/config/mgmt/v3/mgmtReference/management/filters/in...

https://developers.google.com/analytics/devguides/config/mgmt/v3/mgmtReference/management/filters

Another reports you're looking for I believe can be found in, Reporting API V4 and Real Time Reporting API.
https://developers.google.com/analytics/devguides/reporting/core/v4/

https://developers.google.com/analytics/devguides/reporting/realtime/v3/

Again I don't typically deal with API connects but the new Core V4 might be able to solve you're issues.

Hi Joshua, thank you for your reply.

You do have control over filters with the Management API. I have used it with success in the past: you can insert a filter at the account level, and then link it to a specific view. Very useful when you want to apply the latest anti-spam filter to 100+ views.

However, AFAIK neither the Management API nor the Reporting API (which is read-only) support changing the following resources:

  • Referral Exclusion List
  • Advertising Reporting Features
  • Demographics and Interest Reports
  • Content Grouping Settings
  • Annotations
  • Custom Alerts

This is what my question is about: is there an automated way to bulk-change these settings across many properties?

Cheers,
Guido

That's a good point. As far as I know there is no option but I'd love if @Mike S or @Bronwyn V weighed in.

Gday @Joshua R .. just peeking in :-)
Unfortunately the APIs are not something I have much experience with/knowledge of.
Hoping @Mike_S is able to provide insight

Hi!

May I ask if there's any any news on this topic?

My understanding so far is that there's no way to edit the above-mentioned settings with the API.

Thanks,

Guido
