How to handle adding https (and www) to Analytics?

Hi guys,

Our site is currently set up on GA as http://example.com

We have since updated it to https://www.example.com

Should I just add a new View for this one and continue as normal?

Thanks,

Zak

Hi,

Just continue as normal. Update Default URL in Property settings and Website URL in View settings. If you have any filters and goals set up that contain the domain without www you need to update them also. Let me know if you have questions.

thanks Arnold. Will making those changes not delete the data that's
already been collected?

Hi,

No, it will not affect your historical data in any way.

Excellent, thank for the quick help (sorry, I tried to send this through
last week but realised just now it didn't go through..)

Final quick question: I'm not quite sure how long the new https://www.
version has been set up (this was done by someone else), but GA is showing
some data from last month... Even if this new version was set up at that
time, can this data be said to apply to both versions, as regards search
engine traffic etc?

Thanks again!

Hi Zak,

Sorry for the late reply.

The URL settings have no effect on data collection, default URL in the property settings is where GA will try to detect the tracking code and website URL is used by the content reports, including In-Page Analytics. Let me know if you have more questions.

Hi Arnold,

Thank you, I appreciate it. I do have another question now, which I will post in the main forum and delete if you manage to get to this first, as it's quite urgent Smiley Happy

I have GTM set up correctly on my client's site and have tried to integrate GA, but for some reason I just can't get GA to begin tracking.

I am new to the site, and it looks like from early January backwards, GA was working, but then it stopped. When I came to the site about 10 days ago, I set up GTM, then followed this article: https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/6163791?hl=en

...To get GA working with GTM. Yet, it does not. This is how it looks: http://prntscr.com/e2axz7

I am new to GTM however so wondering whether I did indeed set up GA correctly. The tag is now just appearing in "Default Workspace," but not "Live Version," which seems to be where I published the initial GTM code: http://prntscr.com/e2aybv

If that's the problem, could you please advise how to set up the tag within the correct area? I only see the option to "Add Tag," but not to specify which "workspace" or "version"" it should be published to.

Thank you.

Hi,

Did you publish the changes? Is the publish button in the top right corner red?

Please let me know.

Hi Arnold,

Thank you, I think that is what I had forgotten to do. Feel like a bit of an idiot, haha Smiley Happy I'll write again if there are still any problems.
