Google Analytics appears to have been hacked

Hi there,

I'm hoping maybe someone can help me with an issue with my GA account. One month ago my sessions and users suddenly flat lined. My referring traffic was all spammy and real time stats were non existent, even though I had a link party under way on my site with visitors. I'm assuming that maybe my account was hacked. I followed a tutorial to set up another view with filters in place, but it doesn't seem to be working either.

I'm beyond frustrated and don't know how to handle this situation. I really don't want to lose all my previous data, but I'm thinking maybe I have to start over with a new account. I'd appreciate any advice on how to diagnose this problem and repair it.
Thank you

Hey Kerryanne, to diagnose the issue we'd have to check the website code as well as all the filters set up. When excluding spammy traffic, it's best to use the "Bot Filtering" option from under View Settings in Admin.

I'd suggest reaching out to the Google support teams as they'd be able to look into your Analytics account (if you've given them technical support access: https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/1011397?hl=en ) and see what went wrong.

Alternatively if you respond with your website name, I could try looking into what might be wrong.

In case you're referring to woodberrydesigns.com , it doesn't have the analytics tracking code and so cannot track any data.

Hi Arjun, thank you so much for taking the time to reply. I really do appreciate it.
This concerns my blogging site http://shabbyartboutique.com
I would appreciate your opinion... if you have time. Thank you also for the link to google support.

In short, remove the current code, and follow these steps: https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/1008080?hl=en . After this, you can test if it's working by visiting the real time report in Google analytics. https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/1638637?hl=en

The entire spiel: According to the website: shabbyartboutique.com, you should be looking at the account with the property id UA-31778717-1. The tag assistant also detects this error on the website: No HTTP response detected. It's usually solved by a simply removal and repasting of the analytics code, in the <head> section of the website. I also noticed that you're using the ga.js code, rather than the new universal analytics code which you can find in your account(the old code isn't deprecated so this isn't really causing a problem).

You can easily debug on the website with GA debugger:
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/jnkmfdileelhofjcijamephohjechhna

You can check in chrome, console tab with 'Preserve log' turned ON.

Our GA account appears to have been hacked - I got emails from Google console informing me that 7 people had been added to the account as owners. Looking though the help pages

https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/7281924?utm_source=wnc_627102&utm_medium=gamma&utm_camp...

Under if you 'think your property was hacked:'

If you can permanently eliminate the verification token (for example, an html file on your site), do so, then delete/unverify the owner

How to I find this html file on my site?

Regards

Raj
