Do you need to make a new property to track AMP page analytics?

Google recommends this - but why? And is it necessary?

You can either use the same UA as your website or set it up separate. AMP pages are supposed to be served in place as your existing pages so the content should be the same. Setting up Analytics in AMP is a little different though and I would review their instructions. https://goo.gl/cW30as

As a bit of a sidenote, integrating Google Analytics with AMP HTML didn't come until later in the AMP Project and is somewhat simplified to keep page load times and scripting to a minimum. This means it is more work for us, but still not terribly hard. https://www.ampproject.org/docs/reference/extended/amp-analytics.html
