Change ownership of google analytics account

Hi,

I have just started managing a client's GA and it is linked to an old employee's Gmail account.

Is it possible to transfer the main account to a company's gmail address so this does not happen again.

Thank you

Hello Mehdi,

I was just cruising through, I am sure one of the Analytics experts will jump in but wanted to point you to the Add, Modify & Delete Users help file, this should get you started on adding the company email and removing the old.

Hope this gets you sorted.

Hello Spencer,
Thank you for jumping in.
I have tried all the solutions mentioned everywhere and NONE work.
It is as if it is locked on the previous employee...
It says:
"You do not have sufficient permissions to modify the users on this account".
The one who has sufficent permission has left the company a long time ago...

Long story short: yes you can delegate access to another email address but as far as Google is concerned, the email address that creates the account owns it.

AGENCY 101: NEVER, EVER create Analytics, Adwords, TagManager (and sundry) accounts in stead of your customer. Always have them create the account, ideally with a Google email linkable to a work e-mail.

IF you don't follow the above you WILL (not if; when) face account ownership and governance issues at some point.

Thank you Julien, I am fully aware of this!
The issue is the person who used her own email address left the company years ago hence my first message.
I would appreciate an answer from Google though.

I like to think I'm probably the closest you'll get to Google on this topic ;-)

There is a "recovery option" so start here:

If that fails then you might be better off creating a new account, which involves updating the tracking code.

Relax :-)
Try the recovery option and see what happens.

Next time, set up a governance policy that runs account access checks on a monthly basis for instance.
To that effect, you can use a free tool such as GAUPET (https://www.thyngster.com/tools/governance/main/login)

Hello Julien,

You will be happy to know that it worked and I did not loose the data!
