90-100% Bounce & Tag Assistant Crashes When Trying to View Recordings

Hello all - I have a client whose website is admittedly poorly designed and I'm working with them on that. I expect a high bounce rate for the bad design, but often, it is 90%+ (often 100 for almost all clicks) which made me think perhaps the GA code is not implemented correctly. I've seen this before where someone lands on page A, goes to page B (with no GA code) and it appears as a bounce in Analytics.

I don't think that is happening here, so I tried running Tag Assistant recordings and every time I try to record/view three or more pages (i.e., click three or more links) then view the recordings, Tag Assistant crashes, every time.  If I view record only two pages, I see a report and it shows there is a redirect, if starting at the home page, from an http to an https version of the home page (I don't know why). None of our ads point to the homepage, but thought I'd start there.

When I start recording from an ad's landing page, same problem with Tag Assistant going more than three pages deep. I can't help but wonder if there isn't some connection here.

When I check multiple pages from my website, Tag Assistant shows the report no problem, 3 pages, 6 pages, whatever.

Any thoughts, ideas?

thanks,

Bill

Thanks :-)

I'm not seeing any issue with the tracking code snippet (UA-81015678-1), nor was i able to replicate the issue with GTA recordings, i had no problem doing a recording of 10+ pages and reviewing it.

What i am seeing a problem with is GTM container snippet and how it is installed, so you will likely want to review that and if possible, update it to the latest method of installation and ensure that the container is published.
This error is visible via GTA and also via Chrome Dev Tools in the Network tab and checking response headers etc for assets.

How is the tracking code installed? It doesnt appear to be setup via a UA tag in GTM?

I am also seeing some sort of 404 for http://cdn3.bigcommerce.com/r-3f3944a56fc6f7b94edd7f4ad85dd5f2f23ffc9b

Keep in mind too, that bounce rate is only calculated for landing pages.
eg contact page gets 100 pageviews but only 2 of those were landing page entrances and it says

there was a 100% bounce rate.. then it means only those 2 pageviews bounced. not 100% of the

total 100 pageviews.
If not already seen it, you'll likely find the following article a good and helpful read

Thanks for looking at this. The GTA recording error only happens when I try to record the tel-compwarehouse pages. Very odd. My client is really good at what he does, but is not fully up to speed regarding website design and implementation. It is all done via BigCommerce so I have to work within those constraints (i.e., I can't just send over code and ask the developer to install it). This would account for the odd Tag Manager install.

I have no idea what this is: http://cdn3.bigcommerce.com/r-3f3944a56fc6f7b94edd7f4ad85dd5f2f23ffc9b If you remove the r-... relatively blank page that says

Welcome to OpenResty!

If you see this page, the OpenResty web platform is successfully installed and working. Further configuration is required.

Thank you for flying OpenResty.

Still no idea what this is.

Thanks for your help. At least you could go from page to page and confirm it is not a GA code issue. I think the bounce rates are high because 1) the landing pages are unsophisticated and people who search for these products, see what they need/get the info they care about from that one page. Basically it is an interested/not interested visit requiring only clicks to purchase for the former.
