Why am I seeing (not set) in my Google Analytics matched search query report?

1. Our Adword account is linked with Analytics

2. Auto tagging enabled

3. We have no redirect on the landing page

4. Search Network Only Campaign, no Display traffic

5. Date range is matching

4. Some of the search query keywords of the same campaign and AdGroupage show up, but 50 % fall into (not set)

Hi Marco P and Ryan K.

I noticed the same thing with multiple of my AdWords accounts. I contacted AdWords phone support, and they confirmed a known technical issue. Support told me they are currently working to resolve the problem.

Here's some information about what we're encountering at our company:

The "other search terms" and invalid clicks you see in adwords are reported as "not set" in Analytics.

For more details on why you see (not set), please go through this URL;-

I have been checking the data in this report multiple times a day for the past couple of weeks and everything has been fine. Now today, most of my historical data for matched query has been turned into to (not set), and every matched query from today is (not set). Everything was fine up until yesterday.

Search terms that don't receive clicks in 30 days will disappear from your "search terms report" in AdWords and will be classified as "other search terms" which then show up as "not set" in Analytics.

This is for a campaign that has been running less than two weeks.

Then in your case you have to consider these other reasons:-

  • Auto-tagging is on but cost data is not applied (See: Missing Data in AdWords Reports)
  • There is a redirect in the URL
  • The gclid parameter is altered or dropped from the ad (See: CPC Data Not Collected)
  • Auto and manual tagging are being used at the same time
  • Manually tagged URLs are missing a parameter

I appreciate your help, but we have checked and none of those bullet points from the support page are the issue.
