Is there a manual way to track a PPC click directly to a goal completion for a SPECIFIC lead or is there a reasonably priced software anyone can recommend?

Dear Barry,

If you have some programming experience, I would recommend the following scripts / blog posts from Justin Cutroni.

We have a script based off of this allows us to see the keyword that generated the lead, which allows us to get a better idea of what works and what doesn't.

Salesforce does some of this as well with Adwords (not analytics). My clients have used the above code to add Google analytics data into salesforce as well.

Let me know if you have any questions...

Hi Barry,

You should install analytic code on your website than connet your adwords with google analytics after that you will able to get all information of adwords on analytics.

One more thing if you want to track your conversion/goal there is a option in analytic to do so and its free analysis tool.

Regards

-Vicky

We actually ran into this same issue with trying to determine the exact source for any particular lead. Google Analytics and AdWords allows you to see the keywords which generated "a lead" but if you wanted to determine the source for lead #483, then it's not possible with Analytics and AdWords conversion tracking. So we came up with a free tool called Convertable that automatically tracks the source of every lead and stores it in a database so you can track the traffic source all the way through the end of the sales funnel. Feel free to check it out at http://convertable.com

Hi

I agree with David that best way to tracck this is using analytics APIs but it can be quite complex job at times.

I had a similar problem where my campaigns were auto tagged and couldnt get infromation about source from the URL for each lead so we used value track

I do this for many of my lead gen campaigns with SugarCRM by passing hidden fields in the form.

1. I read the valuetrack parameters with javascript and then push them with lead form in Sugar CRM

2. Here is sample code for this URL

http://www.example.com/?matchtype={matchtype}&keyword={keyword} this is value track URL in adwords an will show up as  http://www.example.com/?matchtype=b&keyword=blue%20socks on landing page.
var first = getUrlVars()["keyword"];
var second = getUrlVars()["matchtype"];

alert(first);
alert(second);

function getUrlVars() {
    var vars = {};
    var parts = window.location.href.replace(/[?&]+([^=&]+)=([^&]*)/gi, function(m,key,value) {
        vars[key] = value;
    });
    return vars;
}

Hope this helps

Niks - I love it! The only issue I have with your code is that if someone clicks on to more than one page, you aren't keeping the original referrer (from what I understand). Therefore, the method I've mentioned above is a bit easier - grabbing the information from Google analytics rather than from the referrer.

The coding is just about as hard. I have an old version of the code, I'll see if I can get it updated.

Hi David

Thanks for pointing multiple page views I had actually built a solution to store referrer values in the session but didnt post that code here as it was too complex to discuss in adwords forum Smiley Happy

I agree with you that analytics solution is a great one, i have tried working on http://cutroni.com/blog/2009/03/18/updated-integrating-google-analytics-with-a-crm/ this solution by Justin Cutroni and have implemented successfully. But i have faced problems with some browsers especially chrome. Also there is one big drawback in this solution is you wont be able to get campaign or keyword info if your campaign is autotagged.

and http://cutroni.com/blog/2011/05/05/merging-google-analytics-with-your-data-warehouse/ this solution i found bit too complex this is my personal feeling though others might find it easier.

Also I hope some policy expert from google can clarify issue regareding Personally Identifiable Information clause for either of 3 solutions

I believe Sir Cutroni has reviewed the PII policy on his page. The issue is storing the data in the cookie, not downloading it into your own warehouse.

Also, Sir Cutroni is now officially a Google Employee, so....
