Conversion tracking stopped working 2 weeks ago. Any ideas?

Conversion tracking has stopped sending conversions to my adwords account as of February 28th. My website is built on an ecommerce 3rd party platform by the company 50Below. They have said that they haven't changed anything on their end to the code. When a conversion is made, this is the code the receipt page generates (numeric values have been changed):

<div class="googleConversionWrapper"><input type="hidden" class="googleConversionPath" value="https://www.googleadservices.com/pagead/conversion/2019841852/?value=[VALUE]&label=5qi9yGMFsDeepZuT3mM&guid=ON&script=0" /></div>

It seemed to work fine up until 2 weeks ago. Let me know if anyone has any ideas as to how to fix this or why this code may not work.

Well howdy Matt,

Do you know why they aren't using the conversion code Google generates for them?

My thought would be that perhaps the [Value] variable for some reason is getting a $ or comma placed into it. Basically, something changed the value and it's no longer an integer.

If you're running Analytics along side your Adwords account I would check to see if your eCommerce values are being populated as well.

It's also possible that your conversionID number isn't correct (highlighted in blue). You can check that against the code Google generates for the conversionID and see if they match up.

Hey Mark,

Thanks for the reply. Not sure why they don't use the standard format. I suspect that may be the issue, although it has worked fine until recently. We are using analytics along side and eCommerce values populate fine. However, because each visitor moves across multiple domains, we can't attribute conversions from adwords, otherwise I'd just import analytics conversions into adwords for the time being. ConversionID numbers do match up. Most puzzling.

Yeah, that is really strange.

Adwords conversion code benefit is that it generates a 3rd party cookie that can travel across domains. Analytic's cookies are 1st party and are deleted way less but man, it can take a lot of set up to track across domains.

Piecing together multi-domain tracking on Analytics could be a good stop-gap measure.

Good luck with that!

I've been doing a lot with the BigCommerce shopping engine lately and it only uses traditional Analytic code. Shopping carts...

Hi Matt,

I've never seen it done this way. I can't say for certain whether it will work, but, in my experience this could not work.

Now, I do understand what the developers are up to. When the conversion tracking "script" is returned by a call-back or using Ajax, the script part does not run. Even the noscript part doesn't run. But, you can provide just the image part of that code to record the AdWords conversion.

This is what I would ask your people to do:

<div class="googleConversionWrapper"><img class="googleConversionPath" src="https://www.googleadservices.com/pagead/conversion/2019841852/?value=[VALUE]&label=5qi9yGMFsDeepZuT3mM&guid=ON&script=0" /></div>

You can define in CSS whether you want the "pixel" to show or not.

Best of Luck!

Pete

I appreciate the reply Pete. I'll send that over to my developers and cross my fingers. I'll let you know if that does the trick.

Thanks,

Mine stopped working around the same time - Last converstion on Feb 26th. Had regular conversions before that date, All of march nothing...

Also, when I went to look at the code via AdWords to see if there's been any changes, the generated code is missing the "http" - which is weird?

<script type="text/javascript" src="//www.googleadservices.com/pagead/conversion.js">
</script>
<noscript>
<div style="display:inline;">
<img height="1" width="1" style="border-style:none;" alt="" src="//www.googleadservices.com/pagead/conversion/#########/?value=0&amp;label=#############&amp;guid=ON&am..."/>
</div>
</noscript>

I'm using OpenCart.

My conversion tracking stopped working a week ago for no apparent reason. The code is still in the same place it always was and where it is suppose to be to track conversions. I tried replacing the code with new code and still the conversion tracking does not work. I know I am getting conversions because I can track them in statcounter but google is not tracking. Any idea what is causing this issue?

Thanks
