Trouble verifying organization with Google for Nonprofits

I'm helping a small nonprofit get a Google for Nonprofits account so we can apply for and start utilizing an AdWords grant. When I tried to apply for the Google for Nonprofits program, I was informed that there was already an account, much to the surprise of everyone who works here. There's a general account that is used for most admin functions here and that's the only possibility for an internally managed account- however, that login information is apparently not the admin for this account. The one other option is that perhaps the company that initially set up our website many, many years ago created the GfN account. However, we have no way of getting in touch with them.

Is there a way that I can cancel the current Google for Nonprofits account for the nonprofit and re-apply with the correct account information? Or, do I have to wait for Google to review my request, which could take 14 days?

Thanks!

Hi James
The position for lost passwords / admin is described here...

There is no way around the 14 day period - afaik.

Just for clarification does the org have either
A. one of the old Google for Work free accounts for their domain
B. one of the new paid for GSuite accounts for their domain
and has the org been validated, e.g. by http://www.techsoup.org/

James, I think we have the same problem, but can't be sure.  When I try to enroll, I get a message saying that "current administrator(s)" will be contacted to confirm my request.  Is that what persuaded you that there was an existing account?
