Plurals and Misspellings?

Hi,

I was just watching a Google Ad Grants webinar and they recommended to add "plurals" and "misspellings." At previous training I did online for Adwords I learned that plurals do not have to be added and that they are auto-used.

Also, misspellings is tricky because doesn't Google automatically correct misspellings? Why would I want to add?

This is an inaccuracy in the video script. Here is the official announcement from Google.  (Michelle is a specialist with the grants program, while this is not a grants issue but a classic AdWords issue). This practice has been going for a few years. There is no need to confirm.

Search the community for "close variants" or "misspelling" and you will find dozens of threads, all with the same answer.

Quoting Google:

>>"Starting in late September (2014) we’re applying close variant keyword matching to all exact and phrase match keywords. Because close variant matching was already the default setting for campaigns, most of you won’t see a change in your keyword matching behavior. ...With this update, you no longer have to build exhaustive lists of misspelled, abbreviated, and other close variations of your keywords to get the coverage you want.

Misspellings and plurals are close variants, This has been a few years that Google includes them "automatically". Adding them is a redundancy, and if added they would compete with the "core" / stem keyword.

I don't know why Google Ad Grants team would write this though?

Can you link the source? It sounds like an old one before the change.

@MosheTLV - who could confirm this to not be case now?

I included @GooglerMichelle on this email chain because I was hoping to get confirmation before I add in any keywords. This will take a lot of time if I have to add in these 2 sets of keywords as well (plurals, misspellings).
