Non-ITE philanthropic arm of an educational organisation eligibility

I am a member of a research team at a major Australian university.

We are non-government and non-profit.

Our mission is to collate, review, develop and disseminate evidence-based home modification knowledge in order to enhance the independence and wellbeing of older people and younger people with disability, provide safe working environments for their carers and careworkers, and promote evidence-based best practice among home modification practitioners and prescribers.

We disseminate outcomes of our research to the community via our website at no cost.

Our organisation is seeking to join Google for Non-profits to access Google Ad Grants.

Google Ad Grants would allow us to reach out to a greater number of people who are seeking information on items such as:

-accessible bathrooms

-how to design home environments for people with aggressive or self-injurious behaviour

-how to select doorbells for people with hearing impairments

Based on Google's eligibility requirements, we believe that we would be classified as a philanthropic arm of an educational organisation.

However, we are not currently an Income Tax Exempt (ITE) organisation - a requirement for Australian applicants.

Can Google make an exception to the ITE requirement considering our activities?

Thank you.

Yours certainly sounds like a worthy organization but unfortunately it must meet the listed eligibility guidelines in order to be considered for the program, regardless of the good works that your organization might do. There are no exceptions to the eligibility guidelines due to legal requirements and in no way reflect on the organization itself.

If your organization ever becomes ITE and meets all of the listed eligibility guidelines, you are highly encouraged to apply.

Hello,

I hope you have gone through the Australian applicant details and eligibility criteria before applying for Google Grants:- https://www.google.com.au/grants/eligibility/

@RobertCoats might shed some light on this.

Thank you for responding Pankaj.

We read the eligibility criteria previously and recognised that we may have issues applying due to not being income tax exempt (ITE).
To be specific, the requirements state:
"Organisations must be a non-government income tax exempt (ITE) non-profit organisation as defined by the Australian Charities and Non-Profits Commission (ACNC) and/or the Australian Taxation Office (ATO)."

We are hoping that Google may make an exception in our case seeing as we are certainly not for profit, despite not being income tax exempt.
If the criteria is not flexible and there is no method to dialog directly with Google (for instance, showing them our work and source of funds), then we would consider acquiring an income tax exemption. However, significant resources would be required to adjust our organisational structure in order to quality, therefore it is a process we wish to avoid.

Thank you
