Showing up on Maps from Keyword Search

First off hope this is in the right spot.

I've got a verified business page that will show up when you search for the business exactly by name - but it wont show up when searching by keywords.

Example:

If you search google maps for "Cipher" in Houston, TX we will show up with a pin in our location.  Search for "Escape Rooms" or "Escape Room" and we won't show up.  It is clearly what we are, and in our business name.  The only thing I can get to show up is our Ad.

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance

Hi Brandon,

This is more of an SEO issue than it is one with AdWords or Google My Business. Although having a claimed & verified listing will make sure you show for your business name, searches like "escape room" which are broader will come down to organic search ranking. See this video for more info:

I actually get 2 listings for a search for Cipher. Is this another unrelated business?

Cipher

The issue is I don't want people to search for Cipher and pull us up - I want them to search for "Escape Room(s)" and pull us up.

I would suggest you remove the category "game store". I think this is more used for stores that sell things like board games and it's most likely messing up where your listing is showing up. No one else that currently ranks locally for "escape rooms" in Houston has that category.

Ya definitely more of an general SEO issue. Here is my 2 bits.

1) Write a good description - Dont keyword stuff it!!! Write for users not for SEO, and make sure it answers what your prospective searchers might be looking for.
2) Get reviews, and respond to the reviews.
3) Make sure your website and G+ pages link to each other (use rel="publisher" on the website link)
4) Your doing adwords.. so make sure the adwords account and analytics accounts are all linked properly and owned by the same Google Account as your GMB listing

Good Luck.
