I am helping this business with their online marketing and optimised their Google ~My Business listing at the beginning of June.

Prior to optimising (completing description, adding photos, adding opening hours etc), the listing was ranked #8 on Google Maps for the keyword "beauty salon Bexley".  It now doesn't appear at all for that search term.

Can anyone offer suggestions about what has gone wrong and how I can correct it?

I get the business for
https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=Beauty%20Salon%20near%20Kent%20%20DA5%20UK&rct=j

May be your "optimization" was a kind of "de-optimization"?

I'm based in London, and I don't see the listing for the business in question after searching beauty salon Bexley on Google Maps or via the three-pack.

I'm not sure if there's any bearing, but since when has the linked website been under construction? I'll defer to the experts in this community, but I don't think that's a good sign. Even if the site as a whole is under construction, I would still put up a skeletal page with an introduction as well as the name, address, phone number, and opening hours of the salon, marked up with schema.org, with a message to the effect that there's more content to follow soon.

Thanks for your reply, Helmut. Maybe I have inadvertently de-optimized it, but I'd be very grateful for any tips about where I've gone wrong. I've spoken to The Google My Business support team and they suggested that I was doing all the right things...

Thanks for your reply, Wassaweb. That is definitely a possible avenue to pursue. I don't control the website but could suggest it to the business owner. I added the website URL to the Google My Business profile at the beginning of June (it wasn't there previously) under the assurance that the website was about to go live. However, it is still "under construction. I'd be grateful if any of the experts to whom you have deferred can comment on this.
