Don't see how to add a custom URL

I wanted to share our custom Google+ URL with the public in a newsletter, but I don't see an option on the About page to create one. Is it because I am not yet verified? Still waiting on the post card, but have been able to set much of our page up in the meanwhile.

Currently you cannot request a custom URL, you just have to go with whatever Google offers or not select one at all (which is my recommendation).

I suggest you read these articles:

even in case your business page will verified you can't "create" a custom URL.
You have to wait until Google will offer you one:
Read more about here:

Meanwhile you should share your original URL or any shorted URL like goo.gl/0MjUcy

Good luck

Just to update, I was able to have a support person verify my business over the phone. I still don't see that option under About on our Google+ page to add the custom URL. Will this take time to be able to do?

OK so these help docs are outdated? https://support.google.com/business/answer/6068603

I was going to go the goo.gl route originally, but since I'm sharing this in a printed newsletter, I thought a nice clean URL would look better (Like our Facebook which is fb.com/BergenfieldSD or our Twitter @BergenfieldSD). If this is no longer something I can do, or something I will have to wait for an offer for, I will definitely use the URL shortener. I just had stumbled upon that support page earlier and thought it was something I could do once verified.

Hey @Chris L. I agree that page is somewhat misleading. The important part is "We choose the URL based on things like your page's name and the name of your linked website."

So if Google doesn't offer you one, you can't get one.

I get it... so when they say to click "Get your custom URL," they really mean to show me my custom URL (If I have one assigned to me). Thanks for clarifying.

Actually let me answer this in a different way for you Chris. First of all this is a waiting game, After sometime you will see an option to select a custom URL. In some cases you will get suggestions no way near to your choice. I had this problem with one of our client. So what I did in that case was added the brand page on my own account. Created the page, once I got a custom vanity URL option, I selected the one which was more consistent with the client requirement. I gave the client owner access. He deleted his page and later there is a way to merge the two Google Plus Pages. Hope this answers your question.
