Business not showing in search results

Hi,

Last week I verified my business with Google. However, I am still not showing up at all on google search results when typing in things like Motion Graphics Brisbane.

My business is called MattMeersbergen: www.mattmeers.com

Is there something I am missing?

I placed text within the website referring to motion graphics, video production and animation for google to identify.

I have referenced the website from other websites like yellow pages...

I have analytics enbabled, but I believe I am just getting automated (bot) results....

Help please.

Cheers

Matt

Your site's Page Title doesn't say anything about "Motion Graphics Brisbane" or "[Keywords] Brisbane" (currently it displays "Matt Meersbergen | content creator in Brisbane"). edit: A "content creator" could be interpreted as meaning many different things; ie - be specific in the Title and with the content on the page. This is an easy low-hanging fruit to change. Further more, make sure all your Page Titles for all pages are unique and targeted to what each page is about.

Have you submitted a sitemap xml via the Google Search Console?

I assume you have a Google+ Page for your business? if not, another easy low-hanging fruit.

Hi,
Thanks for your prompt reply!
I have updated the page title of my website and google+
I have submitted a site map in the Google Search Console too - two weeks ago.
How long will it take before I start to see it in the search results?
Is there anything else I can do to help push it up the ranking too?
Cheers
Matt

Hi Matt

I recommend you take a look at this help article from Google regarding how they consider local pages: https://support.google.com/business/answer/7091?hl=en

I'm not sure why you changed the name of your GMB listing? If your business name is Matt Meersbergen then that should be the name of your GMB listing as well.

Also your service area is massive! I highly recommend shrinking that to 20 km - it's a bit of a paradox that a large service area doesn't help rankings, and it can actually hurt rankings.

I'm also not sure what you mean by "I have referenced the website from other websites like yellow pages..." - searching for "matt meersbergen brisbane" brings up only a couple of references to your business, and all those references are to Brisbane (rather than Carindale).

You need to make sure your Name, Address and Phone number are consistent in every directory where you are listed, and that includes the suburb being Carindale rather than Brisbane. As you build up an online presence, Google will build up its trust in your relevance as a business.

I hope this helps but if you have any questions don't hesitate to come back and ask.

re: page title. By page title, I specifically mean the words displayed in the Browse Tab upon hovering over it. When I looked at your website this a.m. (USA time zone), the browser page title was still the same as it was last night. Try something like "Motion Graphics, Animation, Visual Effects Brisbane, AUS | Matt Meersbergen". See: https://support.google.com/sites/answer/98226?hl=en

edit: You have a misspelling in your meta description. Also, It doesn't appear that you have an H1 on your main landing page. You have an H2 but no H1. "The header tag, or the h1 tag in HTML, will usually be the title of a post, or other emphasized text on the page. It will usually be the largest text that stands out.".

re: submit sitemap xml time. It took at least a few weeks for my site to start showing in the search results and a little longer to come up in local maps.google.com results.

re: anything else. See this tactical list:
1. Have you asked any of your clients to submit any reviews of your work on Google? If not, I would do that. See: https://support.google.com/business/answer/3474122?hl=en

2. You can check what pages of your site google has indexed by clicking on this URL:
https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=site:mattmeers.com
(Open up a "Private" browser session, go to www.google.com, and enter "site:mattmeers.com" in the search box with NO spaces)
Looks like Google only has two pages indexed. Does your site only have two pages? (confused)

3. What is your BUSINESS presence on Google Plus? I found multiple pages when I googled "[your name] Google Plus". When I made a Google Plus page for my wife's business page, her indexing in local google results took off.

4. Manager your business.google.com profile - add photos, enter your business details (address, phone number, hours of operation, etc.)

https://support.google.com/business/answer/6103862?hl=en

https://support.google.com/business/topic/4854128?hl=en&ref_topic=4596687

5. You may want to take a Google SEO primer. I found this publicly available document helpful.
