Adding location to search lowers my ranking. It's weird.

Hi All,

I'm fairly new to this;

After week of attempting my own SEO I have had some success getting onto Google Listings, however:

I am an Architectural Designer in Hull.

If I search "Architectural Designer" (from a pc in Hull) I'm top of the listings. Nice!

However if I search "Architectural Designer Hull" I don't show up anywhere, even if I zoom the map over my business. I have my address on the footer of every page of my site and have several references to my location in my metadata keywords.

Any Ideas? :)

Thanks in advance.

I understand your frustration but can't help much

The only method I find you is searching for "Architectural Designer near Hull, UK HU5"

Getting you then pretty well ranked.
But I also don't get you for "Architectural Designer near Hull, UK"
Not sure why.
It seems to be a matter of a bad ranking regarding your business.
See about ranking this:

Oh well, thank you for taking the time to look. It's interesting to see what people see from other locations. Sounds silly, but do you think the word "Hull" also being part of a ship, and naval architects being a thing, might skew things up? Long shot I know.
It seems to affect most of my competitors in the same way so I'm not really expecting it to correct itself over time.

Thanks again for taking the time.

to what county belongs Hull?

Is there any success searching for "Architectural Designer in [your county]"?

Hull is in England. It's an odd one though, because it's technically call
Kingston upon Hull. But in most cases and maps, it's just called Hull.

@Gavin G

haha It was known to me Hull is in England,

But I thought there is a special county Hull is belonging to.

I nevertheless  and based on your last reply figured this:

Try searching for this red written string

"Architectural Designer" near "Kingston upon Hull" (with the quotes)

I then get  to my surprise this and you on page one of all results:

So your suspect regarding "Hull" could well be correct

Oh haha. I often see county as country. :) It's another odd one.
Traditionally it's in Yorkshire. Administratively it's the East Riding of
Yorkshire, but for a time it was Humberside, and a lot of older websites
still have Humberside. Oddly though, since we've been talking, I've started
showing up when i search "Architectural Designer Hull" Seems like a
coincidence that it's started to correct it's self now, but generally I
have had fairly inconsistent results throughout the last few days. Although
I suspect you're a kindly wizard, with Googley powers. Lol

Thank you very much once again

Gav

It's gone again. Haha. I'll have to see what it's like in a couple of
weeks. I've only been seo building for a week, so i rekon it'll keep
fluctuating for a while.
