Google Cloud trial expired. Data studio report broken after setting up billing for Big Query, etc.

Our Google Cloud Platfom trial expired, so we set up billing, etc. this morning. We've been able to update BigQuery with our latest data, but our analytics report is now broken with no clear way of fixing it.

The strangest example of our problem is a scoreboard which simply has the data source, and a VideoCount (COUNT(Id)) metric. We've checked that id is unique in the source data, and it is a non-nullable field. For this we are getting a system error:a637d80d. If we copy and paste this scoreboard object, without any other changes, it starts working.

Next we have a table from the same data source.  Our dimension is a string, calculated in the view (working), and our metrics are VideoCount (COUNT(Id)), and AvgVideoDuration (Duration / COUNT(Id)). If we remove either of these dimensions, the table works, but if we have them both it does not. The error in this case is e47a5e44.

If I change the VideoCount field to COUNT(Id)/2, several of the broken objects start working, but not all. The problem seems loosely related to things that had COUNT(Id) in calculated fields, but this doesn't seem to be the only source of the problem as simply changing these doesn't solve all of the problems.

Error codes:

Unbelievably, the scoreboard's error code has changed to: f3e03771

402fc466

The table has changed to: 4bba3890

Other tables:

18913b14

3081353b

7d872328

8050f18a

75420829

---

Update 1: We've just tried loading some data that was working fine 2 weeks ago (the report hasn't been modified since before this time), and we're getting the same issue, so it seems something has broken here.

Update 2: We've completely recreated the BigQuery side of things, and created a new data source and a new report, and can confirm that we're still seeing some of the same issues.

Update 3: If we adjust the date range to be smaller (rather than everything), the problem seems to get worse.

Update 4: I've also submitted feedback re this issue via the feedback option in Data Studio.

Hi John,

Can you share edit access to the report with data-studio-help@google.com with a link to this thread and our engineering team will take a look?

Thanks!

Hi John,

Copy and pasting the answer I received from our engineering team. We have a longer-term fix, but in the short-term try removing Video Count when using Avg. in the same viz. Copy-paste from engineering:

"The issue happens whenever the user select a constituent in the average as an explicit field. (eg SUM(x) / COUNT(x) and COUNT(x) is also selected explicitly).
Short term work around: columns {
output_name: "Video count"  <<<<< If they can remove this field wherever the average field is used in the chart, it might work.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the info. Is it possible to be notified when the long-term fix is in place?
