I am trying to create a report for a specific author and all of their post on a site, is this possible? The author's name is not in the URL.

For this author:

https://piie.com/experts/senior-research-staff/william-r-cline

Example URLs

https://piie.com/publications/working-papers/estimating-consistent-fundamental-equilibrium-exchange-...

https://piie.com/publications/policy-briefs/estimates-fundamental-equilibrium-exchange-rates-may-201...

Thanks!

Hi Jeremy,

If you have GA 360, you can use the Query Time data import feature and import a spreadsheet that keys off of the Page dimension and imports Author. This would let you use historic data in the reports.

If not, you can implement a custom dimension for Author and set it on the pageview either with on-page code or Tag Manager/the data layer. This would only be for future data after the change.

Option 3 would be to create a spreadsheet in Google Sheets.

Tab A would have pageviews by Page Path from the GA add-on. For an Author column, you can do a VLOOKUP from Tab B that has the page paths and authors' names for your off-GA database or spreadsheet. Tab A would be the one to connect to Data Studio. Be careful if you are adding a date filter to the report- that would require the date dimension in the tab as well.

Thanks for the reply! It may take me some time to actual figure out the solution you are suggesting, but very much appreciated.

Hi Jeremy

Samantha's reply has probably the best solutions if you have lots of articles to display. If it's a smaller number, you could possibly populate an "Author" dimension in your data source using the CASE function.

But the best solution is to have the author somehow encoded into your data set.

Hope this helps

Rick

Rick, thanks for the response as well.

I've been searching high and low on how to figure this out, but I can't seem to figure it out.

Do I have to edit something in Google Tag manager?
