This seems like it should be an easy switch in the style tab, but I can't find any way to turn the month into a number instead of a spelled out word.

Hi :-)
Is this in relation to one of the charts?
If so, it's my understanding the date format for the data source needs to be changed

I ran intoa similar problem. Try using the CASE function to change January to Jan. And so on. It's quite anoying, but I guess that's what you get with a bea product.

I think I am having a similar problem.

I have data on a Google spreadsheet which I want to use for graphs over a time period on Data Studio. Doesnt matter what variations I have put on the spreadsheet I always get the same error on Data studio and the graphs show no data at all.

The error I get is '

You are setting Month as a Month (MM), but we couldn't recognize its format.

This may cause unexpected behavior. Would you like to continue?'

. If anyone can help out it would be much appreciated.

I had that same problem. What I had to do was:

1. Accept the error you mention above by clicking "continue"

2. Use a full date field for the date range dimension of the data source

3. Bring the month (that caused the error) as the time dimension, and then I also added the year as a breakdown dimension

Does that work?

Unfortunately, it looks like none of those types result in either the short month name (without the day) or the month number.

I'm trying to built the case statement, but I'm having some difficulty. I started out with:

case when (month)=January then 1

(I've also tried it with quotes or apostrophes around the January and with Jan instead of 1)

Also, I'm unsure of how to nest the case statements. If this were Excel, I could just do a nested if...

The tricky part is Google uses the GA:MONTH (https://developers.google.com/analytics/devguides/reporting/core/dimsmets#view=detail&group=time&jum...) to get the month. Mysteriously the number (e.g. 11) will be replaced by "November" and sofort.

This works:

CASE
WHEN Month of the year IN ("12") THEN "12"
WHEN Month of the year IN ("11") THEN "11"
WHEN Month of the year IN ("10") THEN "10"
WHEN Month of the year IN ("9") THEN "9"
WHEN Month of the year IN ("8") THEN "8"
WHEN Month of the year IN ("7") THEN "7"
WHEN Month of the year IN ("6") THEN "6"
WHEN Month of the year IN ("5") THEN "5"
WHEN Month of the year IN ("4") THEN "4"
WHEN Month of the year IN ("3") THEN "3"
WHEN Month of the year IN ("2") THEN "2"
ELSE "1" END

BE AWARE!
If you use this calculated dimension, be aware that all the Novembers will be counted as one (2016, 2017 and 2018) because they all have the same month dimension.
