BigQuery UDF in Data Studio

I'm trying and failing to use a UDF with BigQuery standard SQL.

Syntax error: Unexpected keyword CREATE

Step one in debugging: I can do this in Data Studio, right?

Have the same problem.
Could anyone clarify the situation?

When I checked the Query history in GCP Bigquery web console, it had fired a query which is a select query wrapping the whole user query (because you can provide 2nd level of aggregation and filters in datastudio UI itself.) that was provided in the data source. Now a create statement inside a FROM clause is syntactically incorrect which is the error it finally shows in datastudio. Not sure if there is a workaround or not but looks like the only way to do is to have a view out of the query and select from that view as a datastore.
