A view filter  is used to further filter your data or - in same cases - manipulate it. For example, you may want to look at data for only a certain type of pages or to a particular sub-domain. Common uses include:

 

- a particular device

- a certain group of pages

- a particular referrer

- rewriting a URL to be human readable

 

To use the device example. You would:

Create a new view

Click filters and then add filter

Select custom and then fill in the fields shown below:

Once saved, this view would only show sessions where device category == mobile.

 

IMPORTANT:
- always always have a raw data view as a back-up, where you never apply any filters

- always test your filters out in a test view first, or at least be prepared to experiment, you can create 25 views so you have some room to experiment
