If our tracking code is not in the <head> section of our site, should we move it?
I know that it's best practice to have our tracking code placed immediately before the </head> tag and that's how we implement new tracking code deployments now. But I have a domain that has had the tracking code in the <body> section of the source code and it's been there for years.
What's the exact benefit for moving that code from it's current position to the recommended position? I figure it will load more quickly, but is that the only benefit? Also, if we do move the code, do I have to worry about interruptions/irregularities in my data collection?
