TAN for NRI

First of all, I would like to correct that TAN is NOT OPTIONAL, contrary to what some have claimed in other threads.

Second, there's no information on How an NRI/US Citizen can post ads in INDIA for an Indian startup but have billing in US. Moreover there's no tooltip even for TAN on the Billing page.

Somebody from Google, please provide some info on how to resolve the issue.

Hi Ketan,

Actually TCs @Ratan-Jha, and @pankaj1782 are the specialists on India. Hope either of them will take notice of your query.

Could you meanwhile clarify your case a bit more precisely so as to narrow the scope of the question?

- Are you a Non Resident Indian Citizen?

- Are you a resident of the US?

- Are you a US citizen?

- Is the billing address in your AdWords account a location in India or the US?

- You want to place ads for a startup registered in India?

- You want the ads to display only to India?

Thanks in advance.

Best,

Lakatos

Hi Ketan,

It's your tax registration number.

In India, a Tax Deduction and Collection Account Number (TAN) is a 10 digit alphanumeric number issued to business entity that is required to deduct or collect tax on payments made by them under the Indian Income Tax Act, 1961.

TAN is an optional field in your AdWords' billing profile. If you choose Individual so, If you don't have one, leave the blank.

If you choose business or partnership firm, then you need to put the TAN number in the Billing tab.

Hoping, if you are Indian Startup, It means you have already register business in India and have TAN.

Agree with what @Rakesh Kumar said. However, if the business is registered in USA, a USA billing address, TAX information, and payment details would be more advisable.

Thanks
