How to find if I have been billed for a specific adwords click?

Hello,

I am trying to find out if I have been billed for a specific click or not. I did a chat with google support and gave them the gclid value for the click. I was told that they can't lookup by gclid. I spent nearly an hour on chat with them, but still they couldn't answer this basic question whether a particular gclid was billed or not. I was given answers like "Sir I am sorry for the inconvenience WE cannot check with the GCLID for the particular click.", "Sir System is setup in such as way if you are getting any unwanted or robatic clicks than it will detect immediately and will stop showing our ad to them", "I was just checking the information with our specialist team, Even they have confirmed that we cannot know how much it is charged for a particular click", "Sir if there is any mess in it people wont prefer our product".

I am finding it very hard to believe that google is not able to tell me whether I have been charged for a specific click or not. Is there any other way to find out? The workarounds that were suggested by google staff like breaking down clicks by hours don't really answer my question. Google must have stored association of gclid with ad, viewer and billing somewhere. So why can't they tell me?

Thanks for your help!

Hi Snak,

If you want to know about your per click charge (as you know its called Avg. CPC) then you can see number clicks, Avg. CPC and Total Cost in You AdWords Dashboard after login into account.

You can also cross check your Transaction History in Account Setting >> Billing >> Transaction history within you AdWords account.

Please let us know if you have any query on this.

Thanks,
Anand

Thanks for your reply. I want to know if I am being charged for a specific click or not. Google says that they remove fraudulent clicks automatically but I am not sure if that works 100%. We see a lot of clicks where the visitor doesn't continue beyond the landing page. We have eliminated click sources that are not very fruitful like mobile apps. While we expect some visitors to not continue beyond the landing page, we are not sure if some of these clicks are from our competitors / hired companies. One of the clicks we are investigating is from an ip address in Hong Kong. But we have asked google to restrict our ads to Mumbai area. Why doesn't google make it easy for us to determine if a particular click with gclid value has been billed or not?

Hi Snak,

AdWords has automatic invalid clicks validation method and your invalid clicks cost refund automatically. You can get this report in transaction details.
Please find below the screenshot of Invalid Clicks;-

I hope this will help.

Hi Anand,

Google is also telling me the same thing, but the refund is aggregated. If I am getting many clicks in a day, how can I know which clicks have been refunded and which have been charged? What if Google wasn't able to detect some invalid clicks? I don't want to pay for a click from an IP address in Hong Kong when I have restricted my ads to Mumbai, but google is not able to confirm that.

Thanks,
Anil

Hi Snak,

I have already shared the Transaction details screenshot as per my experience where you can check valid and invalid clicks charges. Google automatically detect and calculate at their end then show the transaction details as per daily clicks and invalid clicks.

If you want to know about invalid clicks count then you can check on campaigns level adding Invalid Clicks from Modify Column (under Performance section).

But you can't see invalid clicks according to location wise in AdWords.

Simply you can exclude the Hong Kong & Mumbai locations if you don't want to show your ads in the both locations.
Please go through the below URL for location exclusion- https://support.google.com/adwords/answer/1722038?hl=en

Thanks,
Anand

Hi Anand,

We had asked Google to show ads only in Mumbai, but they have shown our ads to IP in Hong Kong. They have also been showing ads to people located outside Mumbai as far as Bangalore. On top of that, there doesn't seem to be any way to confirm if a specific click we suspect is considered valid or invalid by Google. There is a lack of transparency. Does it not bother anyone else?

Thanks!

Hi Snak,

We had asked Google to show ads only in Mumbai, but they have shown our ads to IP in Hong Kong. They have also been showing ads to people located outside Mumbai as far as Bangalore.

Suggestions:-

I will recommend to change your location setting to "People in your Target Location" This setting will show your ads only to anyone who is considered to be physically located within the area that you've targeted.

And i will recommend to change exclude location setting also as per below

"Exclude people in, searching for, or who show interest in my excluded locations"

With this setting, AdWords won't show your ads to people who are physically located in your excluded location OR to those who showed interest in your excluded location by either searching for, viewing content about, or have settings related to the excluded location.

This setting will help you to target location as per you and your ads will not show other or near by your target location.

Know more about advanced location options - Click Here

For Hong Kong IP - You can exclude ip of Hongkong then your ads will not show. How to exclude - Click Here

Search Query Suggestions - I will recommend to cross check your search term report filter out non relevant keywords this will also help you to save the cost. You can analyse valid and invalid clicks to cross check your search term report. This might be help you to find out valid clicks.

There is no other way to find out valid and invalid clicks as per my experience. Only Transaction details will show the number and amount as valid and invalid clicks. You can also see invalid clicks in the campaign performance as i have already suggested.

I hope this will help you.

Thanks,

Anand
