Competing adword keywords on subdomains

Hi there,

I work for a realestate company which runs on a franchise model.  Each franchise will own their own website on a subdomain of the main domain, as well as the agents (who themselves are their own business).

http://agent1.harcourts.co.nz

http://agent2.harcourts.co.nz

http://office1.harcourts.co.nz

http://office2.harcourts.co.nz

The question I have is that because all of these sites are individual companies operating under the umbrella harcourts.co.nz domain, what happens when they place similar adwords targeting the same location / keywords?  They are effectively competing entities, but due to the same subdomain, will there be any penalties etc applied?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Dan

Hi @Daniel A,

I have 2 thoughts for you.

1. If you can separate the companies by location and use that specific location targeting in each of the accounts, that will help considerably.

2. You're not the first Franchise that has advertised and having separate accounts (for billing purposes etc..) can be acceptable.

3. If I were you, I would contact Google and see what they can do to assist.  I've heard you can have accounts linked so only one ad could serve for a single auction.

Hope this helps!

Hello,

Just to clarify - Adwords allow one business - one account model.

So you can create multiple domains/sub domains for the same business in a single Adwords account. Otherwise the consequences can be account suspension violating the Double Serving Policy.

For the same Keywords and Target location, all Adgroups will compete each other and Google will show only one subdomain / domain Ad.

Hope this will help.

Thanks,

Aslam

Thanks for your reply Aslam, each of those sub domains are effectively separate companies and have their own adwords accounts.  We're just not sure if google will see them as the same company because they share the same top level domain.  They might compete on the same adwords for specific suburbs.

Yes, Google will see them as a same company because the main Domain is same.

Technically,  in the case of franchises  Google will accept different accounts as long as the billing, the business address,  and the location targeted are different.

All those signals, indeed, a separate business entity.
