Hi Shane,

you can learn all about ad groups here:
https://support.google.com/partners/answer/2375404?hl=en

And text ads here:
https://support.google.com/partners/answer/14093?hl=en

In summary though, an ad group is a the lowest level of grouping in which there are various ads and keywords.

So you choose what keywords to put into an ad group and what ads to include in that ad group. If any of the keywords are triggered within one ad group then only the ads that are in that ad group can be shown.

I have kept the examples to search campaigns for simplicity but a quick review of account structure goes as follows:

Your ACCOUNT contains CAMPAIGNS
Your CAMPAIGNS contain AD GROUPS
Your AD GROUPS contain ADS & KEYWORDS
only ADS within the ad group that has the triggered KEYWORD will be displayed.

Learn about account structure here:

Does this make sense?

Hi Shane,

You can think of ad groups as an umbrella for ads and keywords. Ads in an ad group show on Google, when one of the keywords match a user's search query. You can have multiple ads and keywords in an ad group. More info about account structure here. I'd suggest one ad group per product/service with relevant ads and keywords.

Feel free to write back with questions.

Cheers,

It isn't possible to assign one keyword to one ad, when there are multiple ads in the ad group. Keywords are common to all ads in the ad group. By default, better performing ad would be shown. If your objective is to show one ad for a set of keywords, you can group them as one ad group.

Sumanth Can you explain these line you have written with an example "If your objective is to show one ad for a set of keywords, you can group them as one ad group".

Sure, Shane!

Ad groups can be used to group ads and keywords with a common theme, so that a relevant ad appears when the keyword matches with a search term. If you have a single ad and multiple keywords in an ad group, any of those keywords can trigger the ad. If you have multiple ads within the ad group, one with more clicks would be shown by default.

Hope that clarifies Smiley Happy
