Hi Earle,

Adding more characters to ad-

There are certain limitations on the length of ad text in ad copies.

For most languages, text ads can contain, including spaces, 25 characters for the title, 70 characters for the ad text, and 35 characters for a display URL. On Google, this is displayed on four lines: a title, two lines of ad text (each with 35 characters), and a URL line.

You may refer below link for more details-

Making bold letters

You cant directly make the text bold in ad copies. However, if you use keyword insertion,  the searched terms used by users will look bold automatically.

eg if the ad text is

Buy {keyword:Chocolate}
www.example.com
Artisan candy from San Francisco
Free shipping orders $50 more

And if user searches "black chocolate" in google, then the triggered ad will have "black chocolate" in bold letters.

Buy black chocolate
www.example.com
Artisan candy from San Francisco
Free shipping orders $50 more

Below page details out about the keyword insertion-

Hope this helps.

Cheers

SJ

Absolutely correct... but I'd add one small comment... the 70 characters of descriptive text are set on two lines each with a maximum of 35 characters.

Always strive to end the first descriptive line with a closing punctuation mark  i.e. :   a period (.), question mark (?) or exclamation mark (!)

The reason? If you do this then Google may move this second line up to become an extension of the title line when your ad appears in the top positions - and this can be very effective. Thus you ad which might have looked like this without the period...

This Is My Title Line

My First Descriptive Line of Text

My Second Line of Descriptive!

DisplayURL.com

Can be displayed as this:

This Is My Title Line - My First Descriptive Line of Text

My Second Line of Descriptive!

DisplayURL.com

but only if the second line becomes: My First Descriptive Line of Text.

Interestingly I have noticed that although the period is required, Google then removes this from the extended titel line!

Send a screenshot and we will try and explain - it could be that these ads have extensions such as sitelinks which add to the information.

You can also add sitellinks to your ads...
