since the changes to the google keyword tool/planner. it use to allow you to tick the boxes for exact, phrase and broad match. when I am doing a keyword search I cannot work out how to search for exact match, or to see it showing what type it is showing for. I have tried to look at all the help and forum answers but can't find the answers.

thanks

Hi Melissa,

You'll need to use square brackets around the keyword in question to indicate that it's to be considered as exact match, like this for example [red shoes].

This screenshot highlights what I mean -

Nice explanation from Scott already. Only one thing to point out -

Keywords Match Type will take effect on the Keyword Planner data only with Forecasts ( @ScottyD has already shared the correct screenshot for the same).

Match Type will not affect the data for 'Get search volume for a list of keywords or group them into ad groups'. Under this option, match type is by default - Exact.

Thanks

Even with square brackets, it does not make any difference. Whether we use square brackets or not, Average search volume is the same.

Hey Melissa,

I have the same question. Do you ever find a solution?

That option is not valid anymore in adwords I quote from the above article:
"AdWords is redefining the definition of how keywords set to phrase and exact keyword match type will trigger search ads by applying close variant keyword matching "
