clarifying average ad position

If my average ad position is 1.5, does this mean it usually appears in first or second slot on the first page of a search?  If it is 2.5, say, does this mean second page or just further down the first page?

Good questions @Julie G!

An average ad position of 1.5 means that your ad is fluctuating between the first and second position on average, that being on the first page of search. An ad position of 2.5 will also be displayed on the first page, just lower down than an average of 1.5 as you suggested.

I think you'll find this official article interesting, to briefly quote it:

"An average position of 1-8 is generally on the first page of search results, 9-16 is generally on the second page and so on."

Let us know if you need anything else clarifying!
