Hello and welcome to our community.

Because most advertisers start advertising when they are not fully aware of all possibilities and caveats of the system, it is generally considered good practice to start small, experiment, and develop from there.

Of course, if you know exactly what you're doing, you can start with larger budgets as well. But the small budget allows you to avoid spending too much money before you realize that some things you've set in a certain way don't bring you the expected results.

Hi and welcome to the Community.

For me the #1 reason is that any PPC Campaign takes time to "tune", to adjust to best working, even for experts.  If you start small then the risk of losing money through a poorly configured Account is limited.

That's perfect and what I thought Jon but I wasn't 100% sure so thank you for clarifying.

Hi Nikki,

I would suggest that if you know exactly what you are doing, you would know better than to start with a big budget. The program doesn't work for everyone, and it doesn't really work the same as other, more traditional channels. It takes time. patience and a lot of experimenting to make any campaign work. One of the advantages of AdWords, in terms of direct response advertising, is that is is extremely measurable. This give you the data and information you need to tune your campaign.

I always recommend your starting budget not be greater than the amount your are willing to lose while you tune your campaign to be profitable.

Best of Luck!

Pete
