Hi Supriyo,  Your question is really beyond the scope of this forum; there are other forums for that (search "internet marketing discussion forum").  But i'll take a quick shot at it:

Beyond the technical skills which are covered in Google's AdWords certification tests, to become a successful digital marketer you need some of the following skills.  This is not necessarily a complete list, and the relative importance would depend upon the type of digital marketing you want to do, the size of the company you want to work in, whether you want to be self employed, work for a company, individual contributor or manager, etc.  But here are some things to consider:

Knowledge of the marketing process (outside of digital marketing)

Product positioning, pricing, distribution, placement, etc ("the 4 P's" of marketing)

Advertising concepts

Project management tools and techniques

Project planning

Productivity management (GTD)

Customer relations and communications

Presentation and persuasive skills

Technical skills to complement AdWords/PPC skills

SEO/optimization

Wordpress

Google Analytics

Google Webmaster Tools

Alternative PPC platforms

Social Media platform

Brand development

Proposal creation and sales skills

Competitive Analysis

Keyword research

Statistics

Spreadsheet analysis

Databases

Ad Exchanges

Real Time Bidding (RTB)

eCommerce platforms

Content Marketing

Mobile platforms

Responsive design best practices

User Interface (UX) Design best practices

Website development methodologies

Photoshop / image editing / graphics

DNS system and domain registrars

Hosting companies, tradeoff, and issues

Industry trends (e.g. follow Search Engine Land, Advertising Age, Marketing Land, SMX, etc)

that is just a starter list, I'm sure I missed a lot of things and for sure, there are many more.  Like i said, the right mix will depend upon what you want to do.

hth and best of luck

Hi @Supriyo D,

This is not the right place to get such consultation.

Though apart from the theoretical knowledge, practical experience on AdWords accounts associated with different niche, is needed.

Hi,

To be successful as digital marketer and to make an Adwords account successful(in terms of ROI) are two different things.

It will be better if you elaborate where your AdWords account performance is lacking, so that better assistance can be provided.

Generally, the coding knowledge is only required just to place the tracking codes to your webpage/website.

Else, what you need is the Analytical skills to implement the different strategies to get the maximum ROI.

Hi Supriyo.

Wordpress that you mention is not needed. You need it to build sites. If you provide only marketing services, you will not need it.

In order to become a Google Partner, you need the certification, a minimum budget and quality to your adwords accounts.

In order to provide quality services to your clients you should have a basic marketing knowledge (besides adwords). As time passes, you'll see that what matters most is the expierence you get from each customer and each campaign you build.

Thank you Supriyo, very kind.

Keep in mind, it is possible to be successful in PPC with a narrower skill set. There are many outstanding PPC marketers, and other specialists who operate that way.  However, (I have seen this over and over in the tech field), that will usually only last you from 5 to 10 years at most; then that person will become "outdated" and end up having difficulty with employment.  On the other hand, if you nurture broader curiosities then there are always exciting new specialities which will open up to you. Unless you want a short career, you have to be always learning beyond what is just "required" - technology is not a good field for those who don't enjoy learning continuously.

Also, with broader skillset you will be able to bring more value to clients, and more likely to avoid "burnout" from too much of the same tasks.

In my opinion, if you have a strong knowledge of the field of marketing outside of digital marketing, then your value as a digital marketing is more than doubled.  If you have to ask "what are the 4 P's?" then you haven't started down that path yetSmiley Happy

Best of luck to you in your digital marketing endeavors -- it is a fascinating field.
