Setting up Product Listing Ads
Should Product Listing Ads be used with keyword-based ad groups, or should they only be used in a separate ad group? I'm having trouble understanding the complete picture as far as how they fit into an existing campaign.

Targeting for PLA's is based more on your product feed categories than the KW's used to target text ads. So you should definitely create a different adgroup for PLA's, if not a new campaign all together. PLA's are a different critter than KW's and text ads, and combining them all into one adgroup is probably not going to be the most effective way to go. However, using product extensions with an existing text ad/search campaign may be very effective.
You might try:
1. Enabling product extensions for your existing search campaign(s).
2. Create a new campaign designed specificaly for PLA's.

Tomhalejr is right - PLAs should be in their own campaign.
We recommend that you don't have any keywords in with a product listing ad. The system will match the search query to items on your merchant centre feed, keywords are not required. Instead you can use product targets to whittle down what part of your feed is eligible to show for product listing ads.
