Retargeting Campaign and Automatic Placements

I have set up a retargeting campaign and selected Display Network, Specific Reach. I don't want any automatic placement traffic but I am showing that I am getting automatic placement traffic. Is this because my users see the ads on the sites listed or are these truly automatic placements? Is there a way that I can stop them if they are automatic placments. I exclude them but there are just a bunch of new ones each week.

Thanks!

Hi PennyH,

Your ads will need to be placed somewhere.  If they are not managed placements then they will need to be automatic placements.

If you're only using a remarkeing audience list and specific reach: "The ad is shown only to users on your list anywhere on the Display Network"

Those are your automatic placements...the sites that your audience members are browsing.

That is my answer then. My audience visits some strange sites. I guess I need to go in and remove the excluded sites. Thanks again!

Hi PennyH,

Perhaps there is some confusion going on here.

If you are remarketing, you are in essence targeting a specific 'audience' as they browse the web.  If you do not specify any Managed Placements, the only other possibility would be Automatic Placements.

This page/chart should help clear things up:  http://support.google.com/adwords/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1209882

Please let us know if you have any further questions.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for replying so quickly! I do have the audiences set up and they are getting terrific results. Those are all the results that I want. I don't want any placements in this campaign at all. According to the help page you sent me I should just be able to do a remarketing campaign only so there should be a way I can get rid of those automatic placements. Thanks again!
