Relevancy of ad different than search criteria

Hi there,

I'm new to the boards. Have a question: I'd like to start a community cause awareness campaign (with tile ads) that are targeted locally (ip address locations, ie, city, metro areas)...but I'd like them to appear when people are searching for services such as restaurants, bars, oil changes, real estate, anything.... my goal is to simply reach people with the ad...have them click the tile ad even though it's not relevant to the search:  something like "click here to learn about addiction problems in your community and what you can do about it" or "need help with drinking problems....click here" then I have the good editorial info sponsored by local advertisers (caring about the community).

Can I do this?

Hi Doug,

As you highlighted that your objective of running the AdWords is to reach more people. Instead of targeting any types of keywords in search campaigns, I will run display campaigns. Display networks offers you different types of targeting --keywords,topic and interest, based on your objective you target the display campaigns.

However I would also ttarget the search campaigns with specific keywords and brand keywords.

Please follow the below link for display campaigns-

Hi Doug,
The whole point of AdWords is relevancy. Your keywords/search terms/ads/landing page(s) should all be relevant for maximum success. As soon as you move away from this model your Quality Scores will drop, Bids will need to rise, and Positions will worsen. So i suggest you take a good hard look at what you are trying to achieve and see if you can make relevant campaigns.
If not, I highly recommend using Google Display instead. This may work well for your needs.
