Hi,

I have tried uploading an image and my image ad will not sdave.  It says my image it too large.  I have reszied the image using microsoft picture manager to 200 by 200 and 250 by 250 and trieds uploading both of the new resized images and it still says the image is too larger, even though the banner size ad says they are too acceptable image size (250 by 250 being a square ad and 200 by 200 being a small square ad)

Where am I going wrong or what do i need to do?

Hello,

Your image size should be 50kb or smaller as per google guidelines for Image ads.

Thanks

Hi Crystal,

As Neha told you that image size should be 50kb or smaller as per Google Adwords Guidelines. So there is no need to change the format of your Size, however you can reduce your file size. If you have a Photoshop then you can do it easily.

Thanks
Anchal

Hello Sam,

Please note that google has changed the minimum "file size" from 50 kb to 150 kb :

https://support.google.com/adwordspolicy/answer/176108?hl=en

However I picked this up from your story "I'm below 200x200" . What do you mean by this ? You have to use standard sizes in pixels , not 1 pixel more or less than the standard sizes which are the following :

  • Mobile leaderboard: 320 x 50
  • Banner: 468 x 60
  • Leaderboard: 728 x 90
  • Square: 250 x 250
  • Small square: 200 x 200
  • Large rectangle: 336 x 280
  • Inline rectangle: 300 x 250
  • Skyscraper: 120 x 600
  • Wide skyscraper: 160 x 600
  • Half-page: 300 x 600
  • Large leaderboard: 970x90

Let's calculate the areas for every one :

  • Mobile leaderboard: 320 x 50    = 16.000
  • Banner: 468 x 60  .................. = 28.080
  • Leaderboard: 728 x 90 ........... = 65.520
  • Square: 250 x 250 ................. = 62.500
  • Small square: 200 x 200 ........ = 40.000
  • Large rectangle: 336 x 280 ..... = 94080
  • Inline rectangle: 300 x 250 ..... = 75.000
  • Skyscraper: 120 x 600 ........... = 72.000
  • Wide skyscraper: 160 x 600 ... = 96.000
  • Half-page: 300 x 600 ............. = 180.000
  • Large leaderboard: 970x90 ..... = 87.300

So well bellow 200 x 200 are only the first two sizes. That message can mean that the banner size is inappropriate , not that the file size is larger than 150 kilobytes.

You can check some sample images on the first link in this article ( Specs for image ads on desktop browsers):

Adrian is right - the image ads have to be exactly the size...

but if you are still getting issues there is a little glitch in the system which I only discovered after I'd pulled out half my remaining hair some months ago... Google doesn't seem to like white backgrounds.

There's nothing wrong with a white background - but you need to add a border to your ad. I generally just add a 1 pixel fine black border - but I'm guessing that almost any color would do. I'm guessing it's because they never know what background color the ad is going to appear on and white on white would have the ad copy "floating"...

Try adding the border and then saving your ad - might just be this is the problem.
