I am new to Adwords and in the process of completing my Search Network Exam. I am struggling to get my head around and understand what the Paid and Organic report is. Can anyone help me out?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Jordan,

I am not sure if you are asking what organic listings are or if you want to understand the Organic vs paid report. So I will just explain both! Smiley Happy
Organic listings are the free listings you see on the Googles search results page. The top and the bottom have listings that are paid with a small yellow 'ad' tag next to them. There are results from advertisers who pay Google for showing up their ads for a specific set of keywords and they pay for every click incurred.

The Organic vs Paid Report: Time and again, people wonder why they should run ads for keywords they rank for organically. for example, if I search for 'new iphone 6s', the apple website is going to show up in the organic listings. the question Apple would probably wionder about is.. should I bid for the same keyword and have my paid ad come up along with my organic listing? This report help answer that!

You can read more about this here:

There is a very well explained example in the link above, If you still have any questions on this, please feel free to write back!

Hope this helps!
Cheers,
Shweta

Hi Shweta,

Thanks for your reply. Apologies for not being clear with my question, I wanted to know about the Organic vs Paid report.

Your answer has helped me understand this a lot better now and the example you gave with regards to Apple put it into perspective.

Thanks again for your help Smiley Happy

Hi Jordan,

Mine is just a short addition to @ShroffS's great post. It's advisable you have or create a Google Analytics account that is under the Tools tab in your AdWords account. When logged into GA, find Acquisition on the left side menu and select the Channels menu item. You'll get wonderful analytical traffic reports on how Paid Search is developing in comparison to Organic, and more.

Break a leg at the exam!

Best,

Lakatos

Hi Lakatos,

Thank you very much for your response! I have had a look on Google Analytics now and located the traffic reports - Paid vs Organic. This seems really helpful along side the report in Adwords itself.

Thank you again for sharing this with me! I am hoping to take the exam in the next few days Smiley Happy
