New Ad Group - Name already exists error except name doesn't exist?

Hi There,

I'm trying to name an Ad Group "Chefs" but every time I try to save, Adwords complains that there is already an ad group called Chefs. Except, there isn't - there used to be an ad group called chefs but it was deleted.

How do I name ad groups using the names I need?

Any pointers in the right direction would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Ben

Hi Ben,

Deleted ad groups still exist. You can see them by selecting "All" when you're on the ads tab. Names of deleted ad groups can not be re-used. You'll need to pick a different name for the new ad group or change the name of the old ad group.

Changing the name of the old ad group is easy enough. Find the deleted ad group and click on the pencil icon. You might give it a name with a date to indicate when the ad group was active, or you can do something like "Chefs A", "Chefs B". Whatever works for you. You should then be able to name the new ad group "Chefs".

Best of Luck!

Hi Ben

Even though your previous campaign named "Chefs" was deleted, it will
remain in your account. These are simply hidden from view as they are
inactive. You cannot have two campaigns named the same within your account,
regardless of status.

You can see this by going to your Campaigns area of your AdWords account
and from the drop down box (found below campaigns), choose All. This will
show you campaigns that were deleted. These will have a red cross found
alongside.

You can re-enable to campaign called "Chefs" from here and work within this
campaign, modifying where required.

Alternatively, you can re-name the deleted campaign.
