Negative from an ad group blocking exact match from another ad group

Hello,

I had today the most weird notification in an account. That a negative keyword added at the ad group level was blocking an exact match from another ad group. I have no campaign wide negative keywords only some lists and none of them contains this negative, I triple checked the lists.

[edit]

More troubleshooting information :

- the blocked exact match [red widgets] is found in a single ad group in the same campaign, it is not found in other campaigns, but it is in another ad group than the negative keyword. The exact match of that keyword has served 58 impressions today inspite of that notification.

- the notification says it is blocking the exact match [red widgets] but that keyword is not in found in the same ad group from where the negative is found . all I have in that ad group is a single "simple broad match" keyword .

- the notification does not specify where the exact match is located , only where the negative is

Can this be happening or sounds more like an anomalie ?

I seem to have problems at interpreting negative keywords lately.

Should I go directly to chat support to solve this or is it a simple thing that I am missing ?

For Top Contributors : I have decided to limit any of my replies to under 5 per thread when I am posting a question , if I don't get a direction towards a the solution in a reasonable amount of replies I won't drag the issue too far away such as not to bother you too much.

Thank you

Hi Adrian,
Are you seeing that traffic is reduced for this Keyword, or are you seeing that the bubble (on the Keyword tab) says that the Keyword isn't active? I've seen plenty of times where I am bidding on the Keyword "red widgets" as Exact and Phrase Match and then I place my cursor over the Keyword on the Phrase Match Keyword, it basically says that it's not active because of the Exact Match Keyword. IMO, sounds like more of an anomaly to me vs anything you should be seriously concerned with. As long as you're still receiving traffic on the Keyword, I don't think you have much to worry about.
Two suggestions - check your Impression Share on they Keyword and make sure your Impression Share is still relative to your Daily Budget. Also, use AdWords Editor and use it's Duplicate Keyword Checker (you can check across all Match Types). This might shed some light if there is anything you need to be concerned with. https://support.google.com/adwords/editor/answer/47633?hl=en

The ad group has the following setup

1 broad match keyword red widgets , it is serving around 100 impressions per day so all ok here

1 negative keyword , same "broad match" red widgets

But as I have learned yesterday a negative simple broad is not by far a mirror of a positive simple broad, it allows plenty of traffic, including synonims and related terms. I am aiming here at mining for new keywords. The fact that the traffic could be irrelevant is not important , this is a testing ad group and it has it's own separate budget.

The elegedly blocked exact match is shown as a variation [red widget] but this exact match keyword is not found in this ad group is found only 1 time in a completely different ad group.

---------

Now to your questions  :

Traffic is not reduced, the info buble is Approved, the keyword is serving, that is the simple broad match red widgets

Ok so it looks like an anomalie, I will dismiss the notification for now.

Good suggestion with the AdWords editor, I checked and no problem surfaced. It looks more and more like something that shouldn't be happening.

I do not understand very well the suggestion "make sure your Impression Share is still relative to your Daily Budget." Could you please offer an example of some number which could represent a bad situation ?

Thank you.

Edit : here is how the notification looks like , having no clue about the origin of the blocked keyword, probably because it should be in the same ad group, but it isn't

Hi Adrian - "make sure your Impression Share is still relative to your Daily Budget." -- you can see your Impression Share by Keyword - https://support.google.com/adwords/answer/2497703?hl=en

So what I was saying is to make sure that your Impression Share corresponds with your Daily Budget for the Campaign (make sure the Keyword is still showing). If you have a high Daily Budget, you can expect a strong Impression Share. If your Daily Budget is low, then your Impression Share will be lower. Does that help?

Yes that helps, my budget is 100 times more than what the clicks are consuming per day so no problem here. Ok so the conclusion is that since the keyword is serving I should dismiss the notification.

I consider the main problem solved.

Two more things if you have the time :

1) I have attached a print screen with the error. Can you make an educated guess as to where the exact match should be ? Would you look for it in the same ad group ?

2) Do you have any clue as to where to turn off this notification for good , as it pops up at every log in and if the client looks there it looks as if I have something to fix, still unsolved by me ?
