Need confirmation: GA linked to Adwords, tracking goals - tag needed?
Seeking expert confirmation, as I haven't been able to find anything clearly stated in either GA or AdWords documentation.
We have linked our AdWords acct to our Google Analytics (GA) acct. Within GA we have a goal set up, and we're importing this GA goal into AdWords. With this stated set up we do NOT need to include the AdWords conversion tracking tag to our pages code - correct?
GA goal 4 = All downloads, destination begins with "/Downloads/ThankYou.aspx"
Source on ThankYou.aspx - only have GA (universal) tag, we do not have a separate AdWords conversion tracking tag (conversions captured via GA, goal).
Google docs referencing:
AdWords - Check your conversion tracking tag
GA - Import Analytics Goals & Transactions into AdWords Conversion Tracking
TIA for your insight.
Re: Need confirmation: GA linked to Adwords, tracking goals - tag need
Great question and Google could do a better job at making this clearer.
I can confirm that you do NOT need the AdWords conversion tracking code on your thank you page if you are using your GA goals as conversions (i.e, Importing your GA goals as conversions).
Please note that all the other requirements still stand (from the links you posted above). Data sharing enabled, auto tagging enabled etc.
