National and local campaign using same keywords

Hi, I'm after a bit of advice with my campaigns.

I am looking to set up two campaigns, with different adverts. One campaign targeted to my local area within a 25 mile radius and one targeted nationally.

Obviously I want to use the same keywords, but when I to do this, adwords complains that the key words in my local campaign are the same as the national campaign and refuses to display the locally targeted campaign.

I thought it would just show the local campaign ad for devices within my local area and the national campaign ad for the rest, but it seems not.  Is there some specific way I have to set this up?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Phil

Phil, i would suggest excluding locations you are targeting in local campaign from the campaign you are targeting nationally.

That will surely solve your issue.

Thanks for the quick reply,

I don't seem to have the option to exclude a radius, just places that fall onto or within that radius.

Do you know if that is a limitation or am I doing it wrong?

Thanks

It seems not, I have just excluded based on a county level.

Thanks for your help.

You will see the list of location within this target just below the Add button. You can exclude those location from there only.

I think there is no option to exclude radius targeting but you can exclude location within that radius.

Capture.PNGThat seems to have done the trick! If I excluded based on individual local locations the level of exclusion was pretty patchy. Excluding on a county level did the trick.

Thanks again for your help!
