Name change of an ad group

Hi all.

I started to get error message:

  • One of your other ads is already showing for this keyword. What can I do?

The ad is still showing for higher bids. But position is lower than before. There is not a chance that I have duplicate of this keyword in this or other campaigns. All my keywords are phase match. I even paused all campaigns except this keyword. And still got this error. I did a lot of changes past 30 days. But none should effect this. The only one I can think is I have renamed ad group from Ad Group #1 to Main. And looks like after that all keywords in this group started to get this error. I cant tell for sure because the time I did that the bid was higher and I didn’t noticed anything. I started to get this error after I lowered my bids to how it was before I started to update campaign. And before I never had this error.

Other things that I did was:

At one time just for like 5 minutes I added a broad match keyword in this group. Than I removed it.

At one time I copied and pasted this ad group in same campaign. Paused original one for an hour. Than un paused it and removed duplicate.

At one time I copied and pasted this campaign. Paused original one for a day. Then un paused it and removed duplicate.

Hi Union V
I will not call this an error actually, it just tells you which keyword has a higher Ad rank..... the keyword with higher ad rank triggers an ad while the keyword with lower ad-rank will not. If the keyword in discussion has poor quality score and bid, it will have lower ad-rank.

Renaming an adgroup will not effect the ad-rank, so that as a reason is ruled out. However, copying ad-groups and campaigns and then pausing original ones for a short period like an hour or so should not be a problem but pausing for a day or longer might effect quality and ad-rank.

What you need to do is structure your account in such a way that only your desired keywords are triggering a given ad. As you might be aware of, new ad-groups and keywords takes time to reach their best performance level. You may use a combination of higher bids (for some time) and highly relevant ad-text and landing page. This should not be an issue in your case because there are no duplicate keywords you mentioned.

Hope this helps.

Thanks

ppcspecialist, Thank you.
That was helpful, but I still worried that's something is going on.
Its Says that: "One of your other ads is already showing for this keyword" but none are showing. At least in Ad Preview and Diagnosis. And all other keywords shows the same message. And after I paused all other keywords in the account for 20 minutes. That message still there.
Thanks for your help.

I will suggest waiting longer for the message to disappear, because of so many variables at work sometimes it just takes a bit longer.

Hi @Union V as @Ajay S has suggested, you really can't test AdWords with such short time periods, virtually nothing in the AdWords UI is real time and some metrics/messages take hours - sometimes quite a number of hours - to appear/disappear.

You said there's "no chance" you have a duplicate of the Keyword in question.  Are there Keywords that are close to the one seeing the message?  Could they be matched by close variants, or by having a smaller number of words?  For example, "red shoes" and "buy red shoes" could both match against the search query red shoes.

@Ajay S I should say that there's no evidence to suggest that pausing an AdWords element has any direct effect on Quality Score or Ad Ranking.  Pausing/enabling elements is a common part of AdWords management and the system does not penalise users for doing so.
