Keyword includes a location but not the one which is targeted

Hi guys. Im extremely new to all this (1st day!) and I was experimenting and trying to show and ad in German speaking territories only. So I set up to be shown in Germany and Austria. However Im getting this message when I check to see if the add is being shown:

"Your ad isn't showing for this keyword right now. There are a number of reasons why this happens.
Because your query included location terms, ads matching this location are shown: Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain"

The thing is, due to the nature of my business, Im using 'Barcelona' or 'Spain' in my keyword phrases. Does this mean the add won't be shown in Germany, but is attempting to be shown in Spain? Sorry for the silly question, if it's silly.

Thanks

Hi Mike,

Can you please share any keywords that contain "Barcelona" or "Spain"?

Thanks,
Kaushik

Mike H,

Does this mean the add won't be shown in Germany, but is attempting to be shown in Spain? If you are Targeting Germany it will be shown in Germany, However you may also want to take advantage of Advanced location options ( which I mention below) if you only want people living in Germany and Not Spain you need to change from the default setting of People in, searching for, or viewing pages about your targeted location (default)

First:
Use the Ad Diagnosis and Preview tool to view your ads Live.
https://support.google.com/adwords/answer/148778?hl=en

In the pop-up that appears before you Click Preview change the Location displayed to "Germany" in your instance to see how you ad displays in Germany.

You should then see your ads.

Also review Advanced location options. But read up on this so you make the most informed decision for your business

The system will target the areas in which you target, but you may want to be more exclusive in your targeting to only show to Germany by changing the default targeting from

People in, searching for, or viewing pages about your targeted location (default)
People in your targeted location
People searching for or viewing pages about your targeted location

To People in your Targeted Location

To see where your ads have been seen via Geo Targeting Reports to make a more informed decision check out Measuring geographic performance

Hope that Helps
