In Stream adverts based on Browsing history

Hi there,

I am new to Video Adwords. I have produced a video for my clients removal and storage company, but want to offer targeted video advertising. I want to target people that have previously showed an interest in moving and storage by either visiting other removal / storage companies websites so that if and when they go to YouTube later that day i can advertise my clients promo video.

I would also want to target people geographically. I have researched and can see that there is a cool re-marketing method, but am i right in saying that only applies if they have only visited my clients website? What about if they have been on my competitors site/ been generally searching on Google earlier that day for a moving or storage solution?

Is this possible?

Hello, Mad D.

There are two targeting methods that you can use in order to achieve what you want.

a) target a person's interest in removal and storage no matter which YouTube video they are viewing
b) target videos dealing with removal and storage on YouTube, regardless of a person's interest

Here's how to target topics (in your case YouTube videos related to removal and storage): https://support.google.com/adwords/answer/2497832?hl=en
Here's how to target interests: https://support.google.com/adwords/answer/2497941?hl=en&ref_topic=3122880

In both cases you need to target youtube as a placement (a website): https://support.google.com/adwords/answer/2470108?hl=en

You cannot target people who've been on your competitor website directly, but if Google detects that a person is interested in a vertical (https://developers.google.com/adwords/api/docs/appendix/verticals) such as Business & Industrial > Transportation & Logistics > Moving & Relocation and / or Business & Industrial > Transportation & Logistics > Public Storage then they will show your ad.

Hope it helps. If you have further questions, don't hesitate to ask them here.

Thanks Calin for your quick reply. How reliable is Vertical targeting? I mean, how reliable if i was just to set a campaign up by purely targeting a vertical?

If i was a student, and i was looking on line dabbling in and out of removable companies and doing searches on Google for removal companies, how soon/ likely would it be that Google would detect this as a vertical of interest? Is it assigned to me over a short term or long term ? Is this vertical association only detectable if i am signed in to Google or will it be assigned to a cookie?
