Hello,

Probably different advertisers may give you different advice. The way I do it is by meaning, because an Ad Groups should reflect a user's intent. I use all match types in the same ad group with different bids, higher for exact match , lower for phrase, lowest for BMM, never simple broad unless the location targeting is really small.

Hi Carlos AdWorld,

I'm one of those advertisers will give you different advice.

My answer is simple: Yes, do both. But "semantic" is more important to do.

On the other hand, I do use all match types in the same group for some AdGroups. For others, not so much.

Best of Luck!

Hi,

Thanks a lot for your response!

Can you tell me now what do you think about this segmentation?
It's separating Ad Groups by meaning and also by KW Match. Is it too much? What would work best?

Campaign: Printer - General. (depending product main caracteristics)

Ad group Printer–Ink. Keyword Examples for each Printer–Ink Adgroup

Printer - Ink [Exact] [printer ink]; [refill printer ink]; etc.
Printer - Ink [Modified Broad] +printer +ink; +refill +printer +ink etc.
Printer - Ink [Phrase] "printer ink"; "refill printer ink"; etc.

Ad group Printer–Laser. Keyword Examples for each Printer–Laser Adgroup

Printer - Laser [Exact] [printer laser]; [cheap laser printer]; etc.
Printer - Laser [Modified Broad] +printer +laser; +cheap +laser +printer etc.
Printer - Laser [Phrase] "printer laser"; "cheap laser printer"; etc.

Campaign: Printer – Brand

Ad group Printer - HP Keyword Examples for each Printer – HP Ad group

Printer – HP [Exact] [printer hp]; [cheap hp printer] etc.
Printer – HP [Modified Broad] +printer +hp; +cheap +hp +printer etc.
Printer – HP [Phrase] “printer hp”; “cheap hp printer” etc.

Printer - Laser - HP
+laser +printer +hp; +cheap +laser +hp +printer etc.
Printer - Ink - Canon
+printer +canon +ink; +cheap +ink +canon +printer etc.

.....

Thanks!
Best regards!
Carlos

No matter which method / approach you choose; make sure that you bid the highest on exact match ; lower on phrase, and the lowest on BMM;
