How to allow a negative keyword for one specific ad group?

Hello all,

I've searched the forums for an answer to this question, I've found plenty on Negative keywords but an answer to this specific scenario eludes me.

I have the word "free" relegated to the Negative keyword list at campaign level. We now have a need to create a new ad group that will specifically target a product which makes liberal use of the word "free" in its actually name and as such, will make heavy use of that word in ads and keywords.

My question is, how do I go about setting this up so that the new ad group can operate successfully, whilst still excluding that phrase for the rest of our campaign?

My initial thought was that I'd have to remove the word "free" from a campaign-level negative keyword list, and then manually exclude it at the ad-group level for the rest of our groups. However this feels like a pretty crude way of executing this and I've a sneaking suspicion that the wonderful world of Google has a much more intuitive way for me to address this!

Thanks for any help.

Hi Mark and welcome to the Community.  I fear your trust in the wonder of Google may be misplaced as unless I'm wrong your idea would be the only way to achieve what you want.  Are you using Keyword Lists?  If so, the process should be pretty rapid, if not, using the Editor will still make it pretty easy if you have a lot of Groups.

Thanks Jon,

Not using lists currently, mainly exclude negative KW's just based on what I weed out from the Search Terms Report so there's no particular theme around which I've needed to create a list. So, looks like I shall be playing with the editor instead!

Appreciate the quick response!

Mark.
